Bachelor of Theology

• Those wanting to thoroughly equip themselves to evangelise in the workforce and contribute in a lay capacity within their local church.

The normal academic entry requirement for this course includes a degree from an Australian university or its equivalent.

Applicant’s academic background:

• Higher Education. An undergraduate degree in any field from an Australian university or equivalent qualification.
• VET Study and Work and Life Experience. Enquiries are welcome from Australian residents without a university degree as mature age students may qualify by an entrance exam.
• Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years).
  Normally not applicable.

Other Admission Criteria

The College exists to prepare men and women for Christian ministry. In addition to the academic requirements, other criteria must be demonstrated for admission to the College. The criteria must be attested by personal references supplied by the applicant and will be evaluated by an admissions panel. An interview with the applicant is required.

• Understanding of and aptitude for Christian leadership and ministry (including leadership potential, ministry experience, experience of sharing the knowledge of God and exemplary personal life consistent with the principles of the Anglican Church of Australia, Diocese of Sydney).
• Theological understanding (including a basic understanding of the Christian gospel, general familiarity with the content of the Bible and the capacity to make theological connections to personal life).
• Aptitude for community living (including emotional maturity and relationship skills).
• A firm intention of engaging in Christian ministry (broadly defined) after graduation.

Applications from domestic students to commence study in semester 2 are due by 30 June.
Applications from domestic students for the forthcoming year are due by 30 November.
Applications from international students for the forthcoming year are due by 31 October.

BTh graduates may proceed to the fourth year of the College’s Bachelor of Divinity program or may be eligible for the College’s Master of Arts in Theology (coursework) program. Either path may lead to higher research degrees.

Credit transfer may be available and is assessed in terms of the Academic Credit Policy, located on the Moore Policy website, and the Australian Qualifications Framework, Qualifications Pathways Policy.

• Fees are charged by unit.
• The sum of all required units fees (domestic) in each academic year for 2024 is $24,200 for full-time on-campus study. See Current Unit Fees and Census Dates for Undergraduate courses.

• Fees can be paid upfront or via FEE-HELP (for eligible students).
• The Academic Board reserves the right to cancel the enrolment of any student whose fees are not paid by the due date. Fees and other amounts payable by students are determined by the College Governing Board and after preparation of the College budget in August prior to each academic year.

3 – BS300 is a co-requisite of BS312.

The BTh incorporates work-integrated learning in a practicum unit in second year. The practicum provides students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they acquire in the course into a ministry context. The practicum is one semester in duration and typically involves work in a church as a student minister. Students will be supervised by an experienced member of the ministry team and will receive support from the College in the experience. Students will observe ministry in practice and be given opportunities to perform ministry that might include preaching, leading services, leading small groups, training lay leaders, and 1-on-1 personal ministry. Students will reflect on the ministry practice they observe as well as their own practice and receive feedback from their supervisor about their performance.

BTh students may request to transfer from the BTh to the Bachelor of Theology/Master of Theology (Coursework) (BTh/ThM) after completing the first year of the BTh and, at the latest, by the end of semester 1 in third year. Progression from the BTh to the ThM requires the successful completion of the BTh with a final weighted average mark of 60% or higher. Progression also requires that the student continues to meet and has shown development in the Other Admission Criteria stated above.

Articulation from the BTh to the ThM for students who completed the BTh but not within the BTh/ThM program requires the completion of a bridging task set by the College.
